As I sit in a basically-empty newsroom with nothing to copy edit, I realize I type incredibly loudly and that my editor probably hates me for it.
All I can think about is the scene in Up in the Air when Anna Kendrick’s character says she pounds away on the keyboard because she types with purpose.
She and I are a lot alike in that respect.

Day 20: Define happiness in your own words
Happiness is...
Waking up without an alarm
Long lunches in the same booth at Angelos with the same two girls as often as possible
Finding a new entry in the stylebook I never knew before
Cooking a new recipe and having it turn out perfectly—or at least, close to perfect
Sweatshirt-and-shorts weather
The color combination navy and yellow
Playing handbells for an hour every Tuesday...

Day 17: Something that inspires you
Leaving a conversation and wishing it didn’t have to end. It makes me realize there are thousands of stories out there waiting to be unravelled and heard, which gives me hope that I am going to seriously love my chosen profession.
That moment when you realize the SAG awards had...

But then you remember, Jim Parsons has an Emmy and a Golden Globe, so he doesn’t really give a damn.
"DON'T FISH EAT OTHER FISH!?"
“THE MARLINS AND THE TROUT?”
I want this movie to win for any Oscar it is up for.
Why yes, I am a Matchbook girl. →
I am SO excited for this launch tomorrow. Matchbook looks like it will be absolutely darling.
Only at the MU School of Journalism
Would a professor send out an e-mail telling students not to bring their iPads to class.
Finally
After a year and a half of studying journalism in college, I finally wrote something that at least bears some resemblance to journalism in my journalism class. Yes, it was only about 50 words, not for a grade and hardly an actual story, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Day 14: A conversation that makes you smile
Jim: Do you remember what you said to me on my first day of work, just before you walked me over to my desk? Pam: Yeah, enjoy this moment, because you’re never going to go back to this time before you met your desk mate Dwight. Jim: And that’s when I knew. You? Pam: You came up to my desk, and said, this might sound weird, and there’s no reason for me to know this, but that mixed...
Oh dear.
My 30-day blog challenge has been a bit of a fail as I have been out of town and classes finally resumed. As such, I haven’t exactly had tons of time to tumble so now I’m going to play a bit of catch-up as I procrastinate reading any of my numerous assignments that need to be done by Friday.
Sitting in a coffee shop
I’m trying to get through The Communist Manifesto for my class all about modern humanities. Even if I re-read a paragraph numerous times, I still don’t exactly get what is going on.
Suffice to say, I’m a bit nervous for class tomorrow.
I absolutely adore airports
There’s just something about them that fascinates me.
Part of it is because of the kind of connections you can make. For example, when I was at Heathrow in August walking down the main terminal, I met three guys who go to KU (a major rival of my school). There we were, three fictional birds and a huge feline, hundreds of thousands of miles away from our respective college towns who all...

What’s up with that?
I've started packing
Classes resume next Tuesday (my school has an obnoxiously-long winter break), and I’m going to Chicago Thursday to see my roommate and some other lovely Alpha Chi sisters. As such, I need to have all my school stuff packed before I go to Chicago because I won’t have time to do so when I get back.
I think this is the most excited I’ve ever been for a semester to begin, class...

How is it that on a campus of 40,000 students, I run into the people I least want to run into ALL THE TIME?
It’s a phenomenon that I’ll never understand.
Day 10: A Youtube video that makes you happy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtOv_KJbD4A
This is the first video I ever saw that Kingley made, and I love it—though when I show this to other people, they generally don’t find it quite as funny as I do. It was on Tosh.0 which got him a lot of publicity, and I think he has quite the following—in any event, he has almost 90,000 followers on Twitter (yes, I am one of those...

How I spent a lovely Sunday evening:
Making strawberry champagne cupcakes while watching Ratatouille while drinking a mimosa. I kind of messed up the frosting but that’s ok; I’ll just know how to make it properly next time.
Now I think I’ll write a letter to my grandma because I got new monogrammed stationary for Christmas, and is there really anything better than receiving snail mail (especially from your...
Song currently on repeat:
“Shy That Way” by Tristan Prettyman and Jason Mraz.
I haven’t heard such a good song in a long, long time.
Day 9: A Site That Makes You Happy
I’m afraid I can’t narrow this down to just one site so I’ll list a few of my bookmarked favorites:
overheardinthenewsroom.com
theoatmeal.com
huffingtonpost.com

I keep remembering one of my Guru’s teachings about happiness. She says that...

Day 8: Something you found when searching “happiness” on Tumblr.
I read this book this summer and had plenty of mixed feelings about it—my main qualm was the author and the condescending tone she always inked up the page...
